Chilling thought

When I heard about the US Supreme Court debating if gun control laws are anti-constitutional, I had a snarky thought. Well I thought it was snarky. Bear with me, it'll become crystal clear in a moment.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

If you cannot regulate what guns citizens can own, then what's stopping them from owning howitzers, tanks, and nukes? The amendment reads "arms" not "guns" or "rifles". That's ridiculous, right? This must have already been dealt with, right?

No it hasn't.

Thus the transformation from snarky thought to bone-chilling disbelief. If gun control laws are struck down as unconstitutional, what's stopping an all-out citizen based arms race?
