If I Had a Nickel for Every Time I...

... promised hope and change,

I'd be a rich man.

I promise I will work towards bringing hope and peace to all the peoples of the world.

Now give me my damn nickel. Apparently I just earned it.

This award embarrasses both Obama and the Nobel organisation. It's unfortunate.

Of course, it's obviously meant as a retroactive indictment of Bush, but it's disappointing to see a once-prestigious award used for such a trivial and pointless purpose.

Even worse, I think this award will hurt Obama long term.

I made the follwing comment at Chet's place:

I think its going to be an anchor around Obama's neck. They're saddling him with the unrealistic, and implied, notion that he now has to earn this reward.

He's going to be judged against this every step of the way, and I'll lay better than even odds that by the end of his presidency the Nobel prize will be a standing joke. Hell it may affect his chances of winning a second term.

Not that it will be his fault, but it will (ed) be part of the narrative built around him.

Path to hell is built with good intentions and all that. And they've just condemned Obama to media circus hell with this award.

I hope I'm wrong. But I'm not that optimistic.
