Two conservatives and a liberal walk into a bar...

... have a genial conversation and agree to have an open debate about key policies.

No I'm not kidding you. However, the two conservatives in question are Sir Francis of Dred Tory and David Mader of MaderBlog. The liberal is myself.

Both Sir Francis and D. Mader made some quick comments on their blogs about the suitability of electing a Governor General. Mader was in the for camp, Sir Francis was against.

Aha! Says I. There's an opportunity here to explore this further. I sent invitations to both Sir Francis and David Mader to debate their positions publicly, hosted on my blog. And to my immense delight, both have agreed.

The plan so far is for both to produce posts defending their positions of how they would reform our political system to reduce the authority of the Government/PMO. We have agreed that there needs to be more checks and balances, in light of Harper's decision to Prorogue parliament this spring. What is not agreed is how to achieve this.

So this will be debated, hopefully with the first position pieces posted Monday, January 11th. Both gentlemen are volunteering their own time and effort, so if we miss that self-imposed deadline we will reschedule.

In any event, please drop by, read, comment and discuss!
