The Harper government is defending a Canadian official who called in Indonesian police to chase away a handful of protesters standing outside Environment Minister John Baird's news conference at the United Nations climate change summit.
"My understanding is that he was watching out for them and ensuring their safety," Prime Minister Stephen Harper's press secretary, Dimitri Soudas, said Wednesday. "He was trying to be helpful. That's a shame that they took his kindness towards them and spun it."
The protesters were part of a coalition of Canadian youth
But Harper's spokesman urged Canadian reporters on the trip to be skeptical about the dozens of Canadian youth attending the summit, saying some members of the coalition are card-carrying members of the Liberal party.
H/T Mr Sinister.
Getting police to chase away those that protest the Harper government is an act of kindness. You know 'cause they would really rather kill you.
