Why Do We Pay Taxes Then?
So if I'm driving in Burlington, and I get rear-ended by someone, I have to pay part of the cleanup costs?
Look, if we want to institute user fees, fine, but the taxes we pay shouldn't cover any of the costs either then. This is institutionalized double dipping.
So if I'm in an accident in Burlington, I don't want the Fire Department to show up. I'll just take Police and Ambulance services thank-you-very-much. If my car is on fire, let it burn. It's insured. Burlington's Road Maintenance Department can cleanup the mess afterwards.
